On 1 November 2015, the 2nd China International Circus Festival was held as scheduled at Chimelong Hengqin, featuring 30 world-class circus and acrobatic troupes from over 20 countries, presenting a succession of performances that combined artistry and breathtaking thrills.
Compared with the 1st edition, the second festival saw even greater enthusiasm, with many circus troupes applying voluntarily to participate. Venue and facilities also saw significant upgrades—Hengqin Island Theatre was nearing completion, and supporting facilities such as the Circus Hotel and Penguin Hotel were fully in place—marking the formation of a complete industry chain integrating circus performance with tourism and resort development.
The competition adopted a strict judging mechanism, inviting internationally renowned circus authorities as judges to ensure professionalism, fairness, and authority.
Since 2014, the festival has been permanently based at Chimelong Hengqin, and a “Circus Capital” facing the world has since been rising in southern China.
